Geoffrey Healy    Ireland (Woodfired Domestic Ware)

Why do we have favourite mugs? I am fascinated that some pots offer more than function to the user .I am interested in those ingredients that make the difference. I fire my work in a wood fired kiln because my connections to the pots and processes are strongest.

Wood firing enables me to work with the elements earth, fire, water, air, craftsmanship and something spiritual that is beyond the sum of the parts. I connect my own spiritual journey with this process . Pots with life and soul.

I have a fast fire wood fuelled kiln and most firings last 12 hours .The atmosphere is controlled to exploit the iron in both clay and glazes .The work has been made to capitalize on the nature of the firing with ash travelling around the chamber and gently settling on ledges and textured surfaces .All the glazes and engobes are made up from the raw materials to my own recipes.
